Who is a Good Candidate for Body Contouring?

In general, good candidates for body contouring are:

  • Adults of any age whose weight loss has been stable for at least one year
  • Healthy individuals who do not have medical conditions that might impair healing or increase surgery risks
  • Individuals with positive and realistic goals who are committed to a healthy lifestyle

It is also important to note that body contouring procedures are considered cosmetic surgery and as a result not covered by insurance. Additional information can be found on our financial information page.

Every type of surgery has risks, but you can reduce the possibility of complications by carefully following all instructions before and after the procedure. The most common postsurgical problems are infections and scarring. Each, when identified and treated early, can be managed successfully.

Bariatric patients often have complex health issues. After carrying extra weight, many have developed diabetes, heart failure and other chronic conditions.

These existing conditions can mean that more time is needed to heal after surgery and some patients may be more prone to infection. Our surgeons carefully review each patient's needs and goals to provide the best guidance available.
