Advantages of the Perelman Center
Patients choose the University of Pennsylvania
Health System knowing they can expect the best
care, state-of-the-art technology and latest
treatment options. Designed with patients' needs
in mind, the Perelman Center for Advanced Medicine
offers an environment where patients feel safe,
comfortable and full partners in their care.
This new patient experience was built on extensive
input from Penn physicians and nurses, who were
consulted on the building's design throughout
the planning process.
Some of
the advantages of the Perelman Center that enable
us to provide world-class patient care include:
- Physicians in cardiovascular and oncology
sub-specialties will work contiguously, collaborating
easily on treatment plans and holding joint
consultations with patients.
- Electronic medical records and the latest
in communication technology will facilitate
record sharing among staff and convenient organization
of appointments for patients.
- Research trials will be conducted within
the facilities, improving access to trials
and catalyzing the flow of ideas from bench
to bedside and among researchers.
- Natural light will bathe the building through
its central atrium, exterior windows and interior
skylights.
- Waiting areas, food services and patient
library and education rooms are designed to
meet the needs of families and enable patients
to participate in their own care and treatment.
- From its underground parking facility, patients
can take elevators directly to the practice
they are visiting.
With adjacent diagnostic and treatment space,
physicians and nurses at the Perelman Center
will be able to collaborate with each other at
every step of the patient's experience. All cancer
care – including
clinical research and medical, surgical and radiation
oncology, will be integrated as never before
possible, building on the Abramson Cancer Center's
reputation for providing care tailored to the
needs of each patient.
As heart failure
and disease rates rapidly increase, the Perelman
Center will explore new paradigms of care and
new opportunities for our scientists to apply
the fruits of their research to clinical care.
The Perelman Center will allow these specialists
to practice in a setting designed to encourage
collaboration among all providers of care, strengthening
the vital partnership between caregivers and
patients.
