Pediatrics at HUP
Penn's Department of Pediatrics consists of the
Neonatology and Normal Newborn services. The department's
faculty members primarily practice at The Children's
Hospital of Philadelphia.
Newborns
The Neonatology and Newborn Services Division
includes an intensive care nursery whose staff
provides care for premature infants requiring
special monitoring, cardiac and pulmonary support,
and for infants with special problems, such as
infections. Special care is provided for high-risk
infants, for patients with apnea, and for infants
born to mothers with high-risk medical problems.
The staff works closely with the Maternal-Fetal
Medicine Division of the Department of Obstetrics
and Gynecology. The division is staffed by neonatologists
who also provide intensive care in the Newborn/Infant
Center at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.
The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia
While The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia
(CHOP) is autonomous, many members of the HUP
faculty also have clinical appointments there.
HUP technology and services are also made available
to CHOP.
