Contributing to the Joan Karnell Cancer Center
Gifts from patients, families and friends of
the Joan Karnell Cancer Center have provided
the needed resources that have allowed us to
create supportive cancer care for all patients,
regardless of their ability to pay. With these
additional funds, we are able to provide important
support to our patients and advance our knowledge
of how to prevent and treat cancer.
We hope you will find the following information
useful as you consider giving to the Karnell
Cancer Center. A notice regarding each generous
gift will be sent to the individual honored or
to the family of someone memorialized.

Honorariums and Celebration Gifts

ones on special occasions by making a gift. Contributions for birthdays, anniversaries,
weddings, or other important events are a wonderful way to pay special tribute
to individuals and support cancer research and patient care. Additionally,
honorariums and celebration gifts are wonderful ways to recognize the courage
and spirit of a cancer survivor.

Endowment Initiative
To ensure the breadth and depth of Joan Karnell Cancer Center services into the future, the Joan Center intends to raise endowment funds to the $15 million mark by its 30th anniversary in 2017. The interim goal is to secure $7 million by the Center's 25th birthday in 2012.
The urgency of these objectives is brought to light through Pennsylvania Hospital's gracious support of the Joan Karnell Cancer Center's modern, spacious and comfortable facilities as well as our supervisory staff. However, virtually all of the Center’s specialized personnel are funded through gifts and grants.
Because the experience of cancer is already extremely expensive, even for those insured, all of our supportive care services are supplied at no cost to the patient. The Joan Karnell Cancer Center remains dedicated to the highest caliber care by expanding the Center's outreach throughout the surrounding communities. Topping this is the overarching commitment to comprehensive care for those living "with, through and beyond cancer".
Fortunately, the Joan Karnell Cancer Center's endowment initiative is being launched by virtue of the momentum of the substantial contributions and grants provided by our thoughtful donors and considerate advocates. Fueled by the magnamity of the inspirational Karnell family and stimulated by the bi-annual Together We Can Gala, our Center enjoys a widening range of general and specified support from those philanthropists who share our belief that health is our greatest gift. Consequently, we are heartened by our benefactors' endorsement of our Center's compelling and challenging mission.
