Welcome to the Department of Otorhinolaryngology — Head and Neck Surgery.
Located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the Department of Otorhinolaryngology — Head and Neck Surgery at Penn Medicine is one of the oldest departments in the country. We provide diagnosis and treatment of tumors and cancers of the head and neck area, cranial base cancer, skull base surgery and other problems of the ear, nose and throat.
Through the pages on this website, it is my pleasure to introduce you to the department and its faculty, who combine the technical skill and knowledge of both surgery and medicine. The Otorhinolaryngology specialty encompasses a wide variety of simple to complex surgical and diagnostic procedures that are performed on patients ranging from newborns to the elderly.
Advances in otorhinolaryngology research are directly translated into patient care to provide the latest and safest approaches for treatment. The Department of Otorhinolaryngology — Head and Neck Surgery plays a leading role in the discovery and implementation of these new treatments, including TORS, a pioneering procedure that was invented at Penn Medicine.
The Department logs over 86,000 patient visits each year, the highest volume in the nation of any center or program performing otorhinolaryngology-head and neck surgery. Supporting our Department is a world-renowned health system, Penn Medicine, with an excellent reputation for its clinical programs and for its dedication and success in molecular biology, immunology, genetics, and gene therapy research. We are committed to providing excellent and comprehensive clinical care and training and educating the next generation of outstanding clinicians and surgeons — all while promoting the advancement of our specialty.
