My genuine commitment to improving the quality of life of my patients and understanding the importance of treating each as an individual is what I feel sets me apart from others. Open communication between my patients and me is critical. I strive to learn about their condition and personal goals, as well as educate them about treatment options.
Spending time with my family and playing golf are my preferred leisure activities. But I enjoy all sports, most outdoor activities and traveling and learning about different cultures.
I was initially drawn to medicine because of a fascination with science, anatomy and human physiology. I became an orthopaedic surgeon, though, because of the unique ability to dramatically improve a patient's quality of life by using innovative techniques and approaches.

If I had to pick one thing that defines me, I think it would be my work ethic. It's been said that to be an expert in anything, you need to do it for 10,000 hours. Doing the math in my head, I think I'm way over. I strive to be perfect every time.
What I do and how I do it. Every X-rays tells a story of what happened and the steps taken to fix what was broken. I think of myself as a storyteller and my words are my X-rays.

I try to be very thoughtful in my approach to treatment. My interest is in understanding why a problem is occurring and how that will guide treatment. Surgery is not always the best option.
I enjoy watching my children play sports. I also enjoy playing squash and spending time with family and friends.
Since I was eight years old, I knew without a doubt that I wanted to be an orthopaedic surgeon. As far back as I can remember, there were these mysterious individuals (orthopaedic doctors) who could fix me up and get me back on the court. I wanted to give to others what they gave to me.

I am Director of the Penn Center for Advanced Cartilage Repair and Osteochondritis Dissecans Treatment, which is one of just a handful of cartilage repair centers in the nation. There are a very small number of surgeons as interested in cartilage as I am.
Music is something I have always had a passion for. During college, I was a member of a rock band, but quickly realized that our following of 9 or 10 fans wasn't going to cut it for a career. I am still extremely passionate about music, though, and currently take drum lessons. That is, when I'm not playing Nintendo with my son or watching princess movies with my daughter.

I'm an experienced diagnostician and a careful and kind healer.
I have a wonderful wife and two interesting and accomplished daughters that I love spending time with. I also enjoy learning about WWII era history, aviation history and science history.
I have always been interested in math and science, so becoming a surgeon was a way to use those interests to improve the lives of others. I considered graduate school for chemistry during my undergraduate years, but ultimately made the decision to go into medicine in order to help others directly.

Spending time with my family and traveling. I have been to every continent except Antarctica.
I was an investment banker for a couple of years after graduating from college, but spending countless hours on Wall Street taking money out of one person's pocket and putting it into another's lost its' appeal. Spending hours to help someone walk again without pain was much more meaningful and was in line with my outlook on life.

Outside of work, I enjoy spending my free time with my family. I have a wonderful wife and two beautiful little girls that keep me busy. From reading books, playing games, and just relaxing at home to traveling and enjoying activities outdoors, I love my time with my family.
I have always enjoyed working with my hands. My grandfather had quadruple bypass surgery and is still alive today – over 25 years later. I realized then that I wanted to use my ability to work with my hands to help others, just as my grandfather's surgeon helped him many years ago.
