Routine (Well Eye) Examination or Refraction
Routine (Well Eye) Examination or Refraction may be scheduled with an optometrist or an ophthalmologist. Vision insurance pays only for a routine (well eye) examination or refraction.

Concern about an Eye Problem
If you are concerned about an eye problem or have been diagnosed previously with an eye disease or condition, you may be scheduled with a general ophthalmologist or with a subspecialist. Medical insurance pays for the eye examination by an ophthalmologist if you have an eye problem or disease.
