Premenstrual Syndrome

Many women endure the symptoms of premenstrual syndrome (PMS) and need a physician who understands their discomfort. The goal of Penn's PMS Program is to relieve the symptoms of PMS and to increase awareness and understanding of these problems.

Common symptoms of PMS are:

  • Irritability, persistent anger
  • Mood swings
  • Depression or feeling sad, down or hopeless
  • Anxiety, tension, feeling "on edge"
  • Breast tenderness, swelling, aches
  • Food cravings, changes in appetite
  • Difficulty concentrating
  • Poor coordination
  • Sleep problems
  • Decreased interest in usual activities
  • Fatigue, lack of energy

Penn's PMS program has been supported by the National Institutes of Health for over 20 years and includes medical treatment, supportive counseling, nutrition education, support groups and ongoing evaluation. For more information, call 800-789-PENN (7366).

Need an appointment? Request one online 24 hours/day, 7 days/week or call 800-789-PENN (7366) to speak to a referral counselor.
