cardiothoracic surgical patients, medical/general
surgical patients, ENT and orthopedic patients. Developing
a diverse skill set, our nurses learn to
care for post operative CT care and ventricular
assist device patients, receive IABP and CRRT
training, and maintain involvement in research
protocols. Critical Care for novice RN
staff, provides individualized attention
and mentoring. With the opportunity to
focus on a patient's needs, our nurse
to patient ratio is 1 to 1 or 1 to 2. Our

Perioperative Services |
The expertise
and integrity of our nursing staff combine
with state-of-the-art technology to create
an exciting operating room (OR) environment.
The primary services performed are general
surgery, cardiac, orthopedic and ophthalmologic
procedures. Subspecialities include, but
are not limited to, minimally-invasive
procedures, otorhinolaryngology, pain management
and podiatry.
Our OR is one of a few in the region
that utilizes the Automated Endoscopic
System for Optimal Positioning (AESOP)
during cardiac surgery. Penn Presbyterian
Medical Center is also one of only a
handful of facilities across the country
offering the robotic-assisted laparoscopic
surgery. This minimally invasive,
high-tech treatment offers a number of
advantages, such as filtering even minute
tremors of the human hand so to provide
steadiness. We continue to grow the robotic-assisted
laparoscopic surgery services
As patients transition into our Post-Anesthesia
Care Unit, our nurses collaborate
with the anesthesia, surgical and medical
staff to provide an excellent atmosphere
to learn and practice. Patients
who pass through our Short-Term
Procedure pre and post-op bays
will encounter an environment in which
they and their families are encouraged
to be involved in the care. |
