About Pennsylvania Hospital

Over 250 years ago the nation's first hospital built on the collaboration between Ben Franklin and Dr. Thomas Bond. At Pennsylvania Hospital, our nurses have created a welcoming, supportive atmosphere while continuously striving to reach new levels of excellence. Our Relationship-Based Care model provides the blueprint for our nurses. Based on a strong foundation of Professional Nursing, it also provides the framework for our values and principles.

Pennsylvania Hospital is a 515-bed acute care facility that provides a full range of diagnostic and therapeutic medical and surgical services in addition to being a major teaching and research institution. Recognized by U.S. News & World Report as one of the "Best Hospitals in the U.S." for Heart and Heart Surgery, we're also noted for our OB/GYN practice and state-of-the-art technologies including The Penn Gamma Knife Center which offers non-invasive treatment for brain tumors and other disorders.

And while the medical advancements we make are critical to treating patients, it is our nurses, the brightest and most dedicated professionals in the region, who successfully combine the art of caring with the science of healthcare. In addition, our Rapid Response Team has been developed to support nurses and increase patient safety.

We have the highest respect for our nurses and we offer them the opportunity to share in decision-making regarding patient care and their work environment. Additionally, we emphasize staff participation in interdisciplinary committees and problem-solving work groups. Because we believe strongly in the importance of teamwork, nurses with Pennsylvania Hospital enjoy working collaboratively in a congenial environment with outstanding interdisciplinary teams.

Our Clinical Advancement and Recognition Program (CARP) is designed to recognize all clinical nurses for their contributions to quality patient care, as well as their clinical knowledge, and professional achievements. This program provides advancement opportunities for professional nurses choosing to focus their careers on clinical practice.

Our convenient and historic Society Hill location in Philadelphia, makes us desirable to residents of Southern New Jersey, Southeastern Pennsylvania and Northern Delaware. We are convenient to all public transportation including SEPTA's regional rails and subways as well as New Jersey's PATCO.
