Nursing at Penn Medicine

A Message from Julie Galen

Julie Galen, MBA, BSN, RN

The Specialty Hospital at Rittenhouse is a long-term acute care hospital located on the Rittenhouse campus and the newest addition to the Penn Medicine continuum of care. The Specialty Hospital was in the enviable position of opening with the support of our partners at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, Penn Presbyterian Medical Center and Pennsylvania Hospital, who provided a template for nursing care excellence.

Our patient and family-centered nursing model of care allows nurses to build relationships grounded in mutually beneficial partnerships with the patient, family and physicians. Service excellence is supported by the model of care, the clinical-based leadership team and a nursing council, whose collaboration gives nursing a voice in decisions that affect their work.

Adherence to evidenced-based practice and new knowledge innovation allows the Specialty Hospital at Rittenhouse to be recognized as one of the top long-term acute care hospitals in the United States for early ambulation program with ventilator patients and our weaning program success.

Nursing at the Specialty Hospital at Rittenhouse is demanding, as patients are deemed chronically-critically ill and have experienced long complicated hospitalizations. However, nursing has always risen to whatever challenges this patient population brings with compassion, grace and respect.

As a professional nurse, there are many opportunities to advance professionally within this organization. We are experiencing tremendous growth in service lines and I invite you to join our team of dynamic nurse leaders in providing an exceptional patient-family experience.
