HUP's Department of Nursing
Consistently one of the nation's top recipients
of NIH funding, HUP is continuously at the forefront
of advancements in health care. Even more exciting
is our dedication to Evidence-Based Practice
in Nursing. Our Division of Translational Nursing
Research facilitates excellence in nursing practice
through research, evidence-based practice, technology
transfer, quality improvement, and effective
communication.
We also offer monthly Nursing
Grand Rounds as well as programs to develop nurses
at any stage of their career. Programs
such as Charge Nurse Day, Preceptor Day, Advanced
Dysrhythmia, Chemotherapy certification and CCRN
review are just a few of our offerings.
We are gifted with a wealth of partnerships
that include the School of Nursing at the University
of Pennsylvania as well as the relationships
with local college and university schools of
nursing. Their collaboration contributes
to the kind of work environment that is dynamic,
stimulating and very fulfilling.
The University of Pennsylvania Health System's
(UPHS) Clinical Advancement and Recognition
Program (CARP) is a component of the UPHS
professional practice model focused on the recognition
of professional nurses and their practice. CARP
is designed to recognize all clinical nurses
for their contributions to quality patient care,
as well as their clinical knowledge, leadership
and professional achievements.
Shared Governance
Our Department of Nursing follows a Shared
Governance model, which allows our nurses
the ability to collaborate on decisions that
impact clinical care, quality improvement and
nursing practice. Building on that basic
premise, we strive toward world-class nursing
care utilizing six key elements:
- Primary nursing as the nursing care delivery
system
- Interdisciplinary collaboration
- Clinical and non-clinical supports
- Advancement, recognition, and compensation
programs
- The encouragement and celebration of professional
activities
- A clinically-focused management team
