Neuro Critical Care Unit
Dedicated neuro-intensivists led by Andrew
Kofke, MD provide highly sophisticated critical
care. State of the art monitoring techniques include
brain oxygen monitoring (Licox) and xenon CT and
CT perfusion to maximize brain protection and blood
flow.
The Neuro Critical Care Unit nursing staff,
led by Diane Leichter, RN, is very experienced
and dedicated to patients with neurological disorders
and to family needs in a time of stress.
Interventional Neuroradiology
Recent technological advances have led to
new treatments for aneurysms, AVM’s and
carotid stenosis that now can be managed using
minimally invasive techniques rather than surgery.
The interventional neuroradiology team, led
by Robert
Hurst, MD, evaluates and integrates new catheter,
stent and embolization techniques into our practice
to continuously optimize patient outcomes.
Interventional Neurovascular Conference
For physicians seeking multidisciplinary
patient consultation, a bi-weekly conference
is held where cases are presented to our entire
team. The interventional neurovascular conference
is led by Peter
LeRoux, MD.
The patient and his or her physician benefit
from opinions of experts in:
- neurosurgery
- interventional neuroradiology
- neurology
- neuroanesthesiology
- radiation oncology
Together, these specialists recommend the latest
treatment options.
Surgery for Cerebrovascular Disorders
Three faculty from the Department of Neurosurgery, M.
Sean Grady, MD, Peter
LeRoux, MD and Eric
Zager, MD, are members of the Neurovascular
Center and have a long-standing interest and nationally
recognized clinical expertise and research interest
in cerebrovascular disorders.
- Dr. Grady is the neurosurgical consultant
on the data safety monitoring Board for a National
Institutes of Health sponsored trial of extracranial-intracranial
(EC-IC) bypass surgery.
- Dr. LeRoux is editor of the largest textbook
on cerebral aneurysms.
- Dr. Zager is an active participant in the
evaluation and treatment of neurovascular disease.
