Neuro-oncology Program

The Neuro-oncology Program provides comprehensive evaluation, diagnosis and treatment to patients with brain and spinal tumors and other cancer-related neurological, central nervous system and peripheral nervous system problems. The multidisciplinary approach provided includes physicians and other health-care providers from the fields of neurology, neurosurgery, radiation oncology, neuro-oncology, neuropathology, neuroradiology, rehabilitation medicine, neuro-psychiatry and social work.

A multidisciplinary tumor board consisting of the highly specialized medical professionals listed above meets weekly to discuss the case of each patient. They review MRI’s or other radiological films, pathology slides, and the patients status. The tumor board will then work on mapping out the best course of treatment individually tailored for each patient. Recommendations can be made regarding therapeutic options including: surgery, conventional radiation therapy, radiosurgery, standard chemotherapy and clinical trials involving investigational drugs, devices, and biological therapies.

The physicians involved in the neuro-oncology program are committed to research. This ensures that the latest and most effective imaging techniques, surgical techniques and management strategies are available to each patient.
