| Managing ALS Teleconferences
The ALS Association, Greater Philadelphia
Chapter began an innovative program in the fall
and winter of 2004, offering telephone conferences
for a variety of topics about symptom management
of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). These
teleconferences were offered free of charge to
persons with ALS and their families. The first
teleconference featured Leo McCluskey, MD, Medical
Director of the ALS Center at Pennsylvania Hospital
and Gail Houseman, Nurse Coordinator for the ALS
Association.
The conference addressed what ALS is and how
to manage the symptoms related to the disease.
The second teleconference, led by Linda Baird
Jansen, PT from the Penn State- Hershey ALS Clinic,
discussed physical therapy and wheelchair issues.
The third teleconference was hosted by Jennifer
Klapper, Mental Health Counselor at the ALS Association,
and Carol Van Story, Social Worker in north-central
Pennsylvania, and featured a discussion on decision
making and ALS.
Teleconferences are scheduled several times
throughout the year. Please contact The ALS Association
at 215-643-5434 for information about upcoming
teleconferences.
