Lung Pathology
The Division of Anatomic Pathology (AP) at the Hospital of the University of
Pennsylvania provides tissue-based diagnostic services to physicians and patients.
The Division has a long, distinguished record of research in pathology and
provides state-of-the-art diagnostic services unparalleled elsewhere in the
Philadelphia region.
Second Opinions in Thoracic Pathology
Diagnostic consultations and second opinions
in thoracic pathology are provided by Leslie
Litzky, MD, an internationally recognized
expert in the diagnosis of malignant and inflammatory
diseases of the chest. Her particular interest
is diseases of the pleural lining of the lungs,
including mesothelioma.
Dr. Litzky and her
colleagues employ a full range of routine and
specialized techniques for diagnostic analysis
of tissue specimens from the lungs, mediastinum
and chest wall, including flow cytometry, mass
spectroscopy, electron microscopy and genetic
profiling.
As a leading member of the
Penn Lung Center since inception, Dr. Litzky
also works closely with chest radiologists, pulmonologists
and thoracic surgeons to render comprehensive
diagnoses that consider all available, relevant
information. Second
opinion evaluation of tissue samples may be requested
by patients or their physicians, as well as outside
pathologists.
