Medical Intensive Care / Acute Lung Injury

The Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania is a regional referral Center for medical intensive care. The 24-bed unit is continuously staffed by two board-certified, medical intensivists and by a team of physicians-in-training. The medical team is complemented by a senior critical care pharmacist, a respiratory therapist, physical and occupational therapists, a speech therapist, and by one of the most experienced teams of critical care nurses in the United States.

This unit is also one of several sites in the United States selected by the National Institute of Health for clinical studies to determine the best treatments for respiratory failure. Transport to the Medical Intensive Care Unit can be arranged at any time by our air ambulance, PENNSTAR, or via ground transportation.
