Multiple Treatment Options for Hip & Knee Pain

We understand that you want to get back to doing the things you love as soon as possible, so we'll provide you with a personalized care plan designed to help you achieve whatever "full recovery" means for you.

Our team is highly experienced in the most advanced treatment options for every stage of hip and knee pain. Whether you need a non-surgical solution or surgery, we're here to help.

Non-Surgical Care

If non-surgical treatment is right for you, that could include physical therapy, medication, joint injections, splints, or a combination of these and other treatment options.

Hip & Knee Surgery

If surgery is right for you, you may be a candidate for a minimally invasive procedure such as arthroscopy, or you may require traditional surgery such as joint preservation, repair, reconstruction, or replacement. We offer robotic-assisted surgery for hip and knee replacements, which further enhances the precision and accuracy of our surgeons, as well as the latest and most effective implant options.

At Penn Orthopaedics, we provide comprehensive education, so you'll know exactly what to expect before, during, and after your hip or knee surgery. From the procedure to recovery and beyond, our care team will be with you every step of the way, including:

  • Helping you schedule appointments
  • Getting insurance approval
  • Offering pre-operative education sessions
  • Preparing you for rehabilitation after surgery
  • Arranging for any services in your home
  • Advising you on outpatient physical therapy
  • Answering any of your questions

We follow the Penn Pain Protocol, which is clinically proven to improve movement and reduce pain after surgery, making your rehabilitation easier and recovery faster. This sophisticated pain management strategy also reduces the risk of opioid addiction by using effective, non-opioid alternatives to manage pain.

The Penn Advantage

We treat adults of all ages and mobility levels, including professional athletes. Many of our doctors are also actively involved in academic research.

These are some of the highly specialized programs and services that set us apart:

  • The Penn Joint Replacement Program is a national leader in the field of hip and knee replacement. We continually conduct research to improve care and outcomes, and we teach the next generation of surgeons today's advancements and evolving technology.
  • The Penn Hip Preservation Center is the only dedicated hip preservation center in the region, focusing on the early diagnosis and treatment of hip conditions in young and active adults through a variety of non-surgical and surgical interventions to delay or prevent the onset of arthritis and the need for hip replacement. We are one of the few centers in the country performing free vascularized fibular graft (FVFG) surgery as an option for hip joint preservation.
  • The Penn Center for Advanced Cartilage Repair and Osteochondritis Dissecans Treatment is recognized as one of the pre-eminent cartilage restoration centers nationally, developing new technology to make meniscus treatment and cartilage repair safer and more reproducible.
  • The Penn Trauma and Fracture Program is the largest and most complete orthopaedic program of its kind in the Philadelphia region, with extensive capabilities for treating fractures, injuries, and related complications. We are one of only a few programs in the region offering the latest technology available to treat patients with fragility fractures of the pelvis.
  • The Penn Regenerative Sports Medicine and Orthobiologics Program offers advanced, non-surgical therapies to strengthen the body's natural healing process in order to repair and regenerate injured tissue.
  • The Penn Center for the Female Athlete is the only program of its kind in the region that focuses solely on treating physically active women with bone, muscle, and joint conditions.
  • The Penn Running and Endurance Sports Program was inspired by the local running community to provide specialized care for runners of all ages and experience levels.

Penn Orthopaedics is proud to be the official orthopaedic partner of the Philadelphia Flyers, the Philadelphia 76ers, the Philadelphia Union, and the US Squash National Team.
