Pharmacy
Armed with a unique body of knowledge, Penn Presbyterian
pharmacists are relied upon as educators and
serve as a resource to pharmacy technicians,
residents, students and other health care professionals.
The Department of Pharmacy's management team
is comprised of a director, assistant director,
inpatient pharmacy manager and outpatient pharmacy
manager and over fifty employees who adhere to
our mission to ensure the provision of safe and
optimal medication therapy to achieve positive
patient outcomes.
Our
pharmacists perform a myriad of duties including
critical care pharmacotherapy, developing, implementing,
evaluating and participating in scientifically
valid and ethically designed studies, and monitoring,
assessing and making necessary adjustments to departmental
operations to insure quantity and quality of
pharmaceutical care services. Pharmacists also maintain
effective operational control over the area of practice,
possess and exhibit practical, technical and
academic knowledge sufficient to successfully manage
area of practice, and provide a structured learning
environment for pharmacy residents and students.
Working through our computerized physician order
entry system, Pyxis 3500 Platform with Profile,
our pharmacists dispense all intravenous and
oral medications throughout the hospital setting.
They also provide medications to ancillary areas (respiratory,
radiology etc) and the physician practices. Our
outpatient pharmacies service our employees,
discharged patients, and patients seen in our clinical
practices.

Rehabilitative Services PT/OT/SLP
Our rehabilitation therapists enjoy working in
a professional, research and best practice driven
department. They also have the unique opportunity
to see and spend time with patients several times
a week.
We have a wide and diverse range of patients across
the continuum of care. This provides our therapists
the kind of vigorous challenges that are crucial
to advancing their skills. As an academic center,
therapists who work with us receive encouragement
and support to gain advanced certification in
various areas of occupational therapy, physical
therapy and speech-language pathology and many
are actively pursuing advanced academic degrees.
To ensure growth and advancement, our career ladder
is designed to develop your skills so you can
progress to the next level. We also offer many
opportunities beyond patient care for staff to grow
professionally into areas such as academic teaching
and funded research. Currently, we are offering a 12-month
physical therapy orthopaedic clinical residency in
our outpatient units.
This provides the post-professional
candidate with intense one-to-one mentoring,
clinical experience, ancillary services exposure and
didactic instruction spanning the orthopaedic spectrum.
Our therapists handle both inpatient and outpatient
services. They include:
- Inpatient:
cardiac, neurological, orthopaedic, transplant,
general medicine and trauma
- Outpatient:
orthopaedic – surgical/non-surgical, sports
clientele, hand, neurological, vestibular,
pelvic floor and lymphedema

Pathology and Laboratory Medicine
PPMC pathology and laboratory medicine has a
culture of collaboration with the Medical Staff
to ensure that the laboratory meets clinical
needs and can rapidly respond to physician
concerns.
With coverage 24-hours-a-day, seven-days-a-week, the
STAT Laboratory provides STAT and urgent chemistry,
hematology, coagulation, blood gas, toxicology
and urinalysis testing. central receiving processes
all STAT, urgent and routine specimens sent to
the laboratory, while packaging all routine patient
specimens that go to the Hospital of the University
of Pennsylvania. In addition, they provide patient
results and mail patient results to outside physicians.
We also offer inpatient phlebotomy services in the
morning, 7 days a week (6:30am to 8:30am) as
well as draw outpatient blood specimens Monday
to Friday (8am to 5pm). Our transfusion service
has coverage for the blood bank 24-hours-a-day
where serologic tests for compatibility of blood
and blood products for transfusion are performed.

in our pathology and laboratory medicine department

Radiology
The culture of the medical imaging department
is one in which the integrated clinical skills
of the technological staff combines with the
expertise of the professional staff of radiologists,
interventionalists and nurses, to provide high
quality, efficient, timely service to our patients
and physicians. Patient satisfaction and accurate
diagnostic outcomes are our primary goals.
The technologists, radiologists, and dedicated, cross-trained
staff of clerical and nursing professionals that
make up Penn Presbyterian's Radiology Department
work collaboratively to ensure top-notch quality
care is provided to each and every patient. Sectioned
into nine different areas, we provide exceptional
service in the areas of: catscan, MRI, interventional
radiology, ultrasonography, women's breast center,
nuclear medicine, outpatient evaluation center
(OEC), and general radiology.

Respiratory
Care
The professionals in the respiratory care department
at Penn Presbyterian have the opportunity to
work side-by-side with the medical and surgical
physicians who are leaders in their fields, including
our pulmonary physicians, cardiologists, cardiothoracic
surgeons and thoracic surgeons. In addition to
medication delivery, bronchial hygiene techniques,
and the Visicu ICU system, our staff works with
state-of-the-art modes of ventilatory support,
promoting the highest level of clinical care.
A diverse and highly respected department, our staff
works collaboratively with other departments
to promote an excellence in patient care. The
department's organizational structure consists
of a director, three clinical supervisors, one
lead critical care therapist and approximately
twenty CRT/RRT staff. Our high acuity level and
wide range of patient needs stimulates a professional
environment that offers employees the opportunity
to share their knowledge and grow as dynamic
professionals.

Cardiology
Penn Presbyterian's cardiology department combines
advanced technology with personalized care from
an outstanding team of health care professionals.
Here, you will have the opportunity to utilize
your clinical expertise with the most advanced
technology available, including two different
mapping systems for artial fib, intravascular
ultrasound, rotablator, radi pressure wire,
angiojet, and an intra-aortic balloon pump.
Penn Cardiac Care at Penn Presbyterian Medical
Center is the only facility in the region using
AESOP, an advanced, voice-activated robotic
arm during cardiac surgery.
Because cardiology is one of the largest disciplines
in this hospital, our catheterization laboratory
plays a critical role and employs state-of-the-art
technology including drug-eluting stents, the
latest technology available to reduce blockages
in arteries. Staffed with three highly skilled
professionals per lab, we offer a large department
consisting of three cardiac cath suites, two
EPS suites, one vascular suite, as well as a
soon-to-open stereotaxsis magnetic navigation
EP suite coming in March 2008.
Taking a multidisciplinary approach, our staff has
the opportunity to collaborate with world-renowned
endocrinologists, nephrologists, neurologists, radiologists,
anesthesiologists, pulmonologists, cardiologists, oncologists,
pathologists, dietitians, and experts in rehabilitation
medicine and mental health with everyone working toward
