Physicians
Physicians who work for PennCare know that they are part of something exceptional. Our Providers bring the world-renowned University of Pennsylvania Health System to the local community with a wealth of resources. PennCare attracts some of the finest physicians in this region with specialties that range from internal medicine to cardiology. They are truly the “back bone” of our practices. Board certification or eligibility is required for all physicians.

Physician Assistant (PA) / Certified and Registered Nurse Practitioners (CRNP)
While physicians lead the practice and are strong forces in the community, the PA/CRNP role is critical to extending the reach of the physician. Supporting the practice manager and physicians, physician assistants and nurse practitioners perform therapeutic procedures including suturing, develop/monitor patient treatment plans, and act as first or second hand in surgical procedures.

Physician Assistants should hold a current state license, in addition to current national certification (NCCPA), and be a graduate of a physician assistant's program approved by the American Medical Association. At least three years of clinical experience strongly preferred.

CRNP should hold a current state license as a professional nurse, as well as a master's degree in nursing with nurse practitioner certification. At least 3 years of clinical experience strongly preferred.

Certified Nurse-Midwife (CNM)
With a focus on women's health at our obstetrics and gynecology practices, our midwives care for adolescent to post-menopausal women. Collaborating with the physicians, the midwife handles triaging, interviewing and counseling women on a variety of medical issues including nursing needs, health risks, medication and immunizations as well as the diagnosis of medical conditions.

Certified midwives must be licensed as a RN and nurse-midwife in the State of Pennsylvania while also holding a master's degree in nursing with nurse-midwifery certification. Membership in the American College of Nurse-Midwives is also required.
