Penn Interventional Radiology
Penn Interventional Radiology is a national leader in research, education and patient care. Our renowned program is one of the largest in the country and provides services at a variety of locations throughout the Philadelphia area.
Interventional Radiology (IR) is a field of medicine that utilizes the most advanced technology available to perform image-guided procedures to treat a wide variety of diseases throughout the body. As the inventors of balloon angioplasty and the catheter-delivered stent, Interventional Radiologists pioneered modern minimally invasive medicine. Interventional Radiology treatments minimize risk, require little to no incisions, are generally performed with sedation rather than general anesthesia, and more importantly have less pain and recovery time than conventional surgery. Interventional Radiologists see and treat patients with a variety of health conditions, forming long-lasting patient-physician relationships.
As one of the oldest and largest Interventional Radiology programs in the United States, we are committed to offering our patients personalized and compassionate care. In addition to the over 12,000 procedures we perform annually, Penn Interventional Radiology has an inpatient admitting service, inpatient consult service, and daily outpatient consultation and follow-up clinic. We offer the full spectrum of Interventional Radiology care, with special expertise in:
- Regional and Local Cancer Therapy
- Acute and Chronic Deep Vein Thrombosis
- IVC Filter Placement/Complex IVC Filter Removal
