About Our Team
Every hyperbaric therapy session – including
emergency care – is directly supervised
by a physician trained in hyperbaric medicine.
Each of these Penn doctors is board certified
in a primary specialty with additional certification
in hyperbaric medicine.
Our staff includes physicians certified as Diving
Medical Examiners by the Undersea and Hyperbaric
Medical Society and Divers Alert Network. Medical
clearance to dive examinations can be arranged
by appointment. Together, this group of physicians
constitutes the Hyperbaric Therapy Group, a clinical
practice of the University of Pennsylvania.

History of Hyperbaric Medicine at Penn
The
hyperbaric medicine division, part of Penn’s
Institute
for Environmental Medicine, was established
in 1968. This collaborative effort between the
Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and
the Penn School of Medicine provides patients access
to one of the most comprehensive hyperbaric oxygen
therapy programs in the country.
