Premed Volunteer Program

How to Apply

To provide service:

  • For the summer session (May – August) please apply March 10 – April 10.
  • For the fall session (September – December) please apply August 10 – September 10.
  • For the spring session (January – May) please apply November 10 – December 10.
Volunteer Services provides the opportunity on a first come first serve basis to appropriate applicants. Volunteer Services provides an opportunity during the orientation to answer questions related to the Premedical Volunteer Program.

NOTE: Registration is Currently Closed

The Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania offers a Premed Mentoring Volunteer Program. The program gives students an opportunity to gain valuable hospital experience.

Why Volunteer

  • Exposure to patient care in a premier hospital
  • To provide service to your community
  • To gain a letter of recommendation for participation in an elite hospital program

The Premed Volunteer Program Commitment

  • Orientation and training classes
  • Minimum of two 13 week sessions
  • Each session requires a minimum of one four-hour shift per week
  • A minimum of 110 service total hours
  • Compliance with hospital guidelines and policies
  • Consistent weekly attendance

Who Should Apply

  • Premed students
  • Students who plan to go to physician assistant school
  • Post-baccalaureate students
  • Adults planning to apply to medical school

Who Should Not Apply

  • Any person who only seeks a letter of recommendation
  • Any person who does not have four hours/week to commit to service
  • Any person with a Medical Doctorate in this country or another country
  • Any person who practices medicine in this country or another country
  • Any person who will apply to medical/physician assistant school in the next six months
  • Any person looking for exposure to Dentistry or Veterinarian Medicine
  • Any person looking for experience in the Pharmacy Department
