The Women's Cardiovascular Center at Pennsylvania Hospital provides specialized services for prevention, diagnosis and treatment of women with cardiovascular disease. Penn's experienced team understands the gender differences associated with heart disease and provides comprehensive care for those most at risk for cardiovascular disease and its associated complications.
Mission
The mission of the Women's Cardiovascular Center is to deliver comprehensive cardiac care to improve the health of women. Penn's physicians communicate closely with each woman's primary care physician, obstetrician and gynecologist to deliver a unified and complete health care program. The Center is also designed to accommodate patients who wish to be evaluated by female providers.
Prevention, Diagnosis and Treatment Options
Penn's multidisciplinary team of cardiologists, nurses and other health care professionals is devoted to the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of heart disease in women. The Center offers:
Cardiovascular Risk Assessment
- Screening for high blood pressure
- Screening for high cholesterol
- Screening for diabetes
- Calculating body mass index (BMI)
- Preconception evaluation and counseling for pregnancy-related cardiac risk
On-Site Testing
- Comprehensive lipid and inflammatory protein testing
- Diagnostic imaging, including cardiac catheterization and electrophysiology studies
- Echocardiography
- Exercise and pharmacologic stress testing
- Testing for C-reactive protein (hs-CRP)
- Vascular imaging including carotid and peripheral arterial evaluations
Prevention and Treatment
- Lipid modification
- Nutrition counseling
- Smoking cessation
- Stress reduction
- Treatment of high blood pressure
