Quality & Outcomes: Innovations in Heart Failure
Surgeons with the Penn Heart & Vascular Center are participating in the development of the following ventricular assist devices:
- ADVANCE: Evaluation of the HeartWare® Left Ventricular Assist Device for the Treatment of Advanced Heart Failure
This study will evaluate the safety and effectiveness of the HeartWare® LVAD System as a bridge-to-transplantation in patients listed for cardiac transplantation with refractory, advanced heart failure at risk of death. - ENDURANCE: Evaluation of the HeartWare® Ventricular Assist System
This study will investigate the safety and effectiveness of the HeartWare Ventricular Assist System in patients with chronic Stage D/NYHA Class IIIB/IV left ventricular failure who have received and failed optimal medical therapy, and who are ineligible for cardiac transplantation. - REVIVE-IT: Randomized Evaluation of VAD InterVEntion before Inotropic Therapy
This study will compare whether non-transplant eligible patients with heart failure less advanced than that of current LVAD recipients do better with implanted devices than with current medical therapy.
