    The Joint Commission, in conjunction with The American Heart Association, has awarded the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania (HUP) Advanced Certification in Heart Failure. HUP is the first hospital in Philadelphia to be recognized by The Joint Commission with the Advanced Certification in Heart Failure.

  • HHS Transplant Center Bronze Award

    HHS Transplant Center Bronze Award

    The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' (HHS) Transplant Center Awards have awarded the Penn Transplant Institute's Heart Transplant program a Bronze Level Award. Transplant programs were evaluated based on post-transplant survival rates, transplant rates and mortality rates after patients are placed on waiting lists. Penn is the only transplant center in the region and one of a select group of programs in the nation to receive this distinction.

    Blue Distinction Centers® for Cardiac Care – Independence Blue Cross

    In 2013, Independence Blue Cross once again recognized the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and Penn Presbyterian Medical Center as Blue Distinction Centers for Cardiac Care. These specialty centers offer best practices and standards of care in bariatric surgery, cardiac care and transplant surgery.
