Advanced Heart Failure Certification
The Joint Commission, in conjunction with The American Heart Association, has awarded the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania (HUP) Advanced Certification in Heart Failure. HUP is the first hospital in Philadelphia to be recognized by The Joint Commission with the Advanced Certification in Heart Failure.
Advanced Certification in Ventricular–Assist Devices
The Joint Commission, in conjunction with The American Heart Association, awarded the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and Penn Presbyterian Medical Center the Advanced Certification in Ventricular Assist Device.
HHS Transplant Center Bronze Award
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' (HHS) Transplant Center Awards have awarded the Penn Transplant Institute's Heart Transplant program a Bronze Level Award. Transplant programs were evaluated based on post-transplant survival rates, transplant rates and mortality rates after patients are placed on waiting lists. Penn is the only transplant center in the region and one of a select group of programs in the nation to receive this distinction.
Blue Distinction Centers® for Cardiac Care – Independence Blue Cross
In 2013, the last time it was published, Independence Blue Cross once again recognized the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and Penn Presbyterian Medical Center as Blue Distinction Centers for Cardiac Care. These specialty centers offer best practices and standards of care in bariatric surgery, cardiac care and transplant surgery.
Magnet® Award for Nursing
The Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, Pennsylvania Hospital, Lancaster General Health and Chester County Hospital have achieved Magnet® status, the highest institutional honor awarded for nursing excellence, from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC).
Beacon Award for Critical Care Excellence®
The Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania's Cardiovascular Surgical Intensive Care Unit has received the Beacon Award for Critical Care Excellence from the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN). The award recognizes the top intensive care units in the country.
