Located at 59th and Locust Streets, the Dr. Bernett L. Johnson, Jr. Sayre Health Center brings state-of-the-art health care to a West Philadelphia neighborhood. Services are provided by physicians in Penn's Department of Medicine and Community Health. What is truly unique about the health center is its educational mission and mentoring aspect. Students from Sayre High School actively work in partnership with students from the
University of Pennsylvania, learning how to perform basic medical services, including:
- Blood pressure readings
- Height and weight measurements
- Vision screening
Students have the opportunity to shadow doctors and nurses, getting a head start on the pursuit of a career in the medical profession and learning personal and professional skills applicable to active future engagement in the workforce.
