Puentes de Salud: A Bridge Between Need and Access
Puentes de Salud, Spanish for "Bridges To Health," is a non-profit organization operating a health clinic in south Philadelphia. Established in 2006, the mission of Puentes de Salud is to bring low-cost, high-quality health care and social services to South Philadelphia's growing Latino population. Penn physicians, nurses, medical students and undergraduates from the University of Pennsylvania volunteer to provide care to nearly 1,400 primarily Spanish-speaking patients. Roughly 10 percent of the clinic’s patients are diabetic. Puentes de Salud also provides community members with access to health education programs, while addressing social factors that influence community health.
