    The Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, Pennsylvania Hospital, Lancaster General Health and Chester County Hospital have achieved Magnet® status, the highest institutional honor awarded for nursing excellence, from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC).

    Pennsylvania Hospital Emergency Department recognized by Emergency Nurses Association

    The Pennsylvania Hospital Emergency Department is recognized by the Emergency Nurses Association as a Lantern recognized Emergency Department. This award distinguishes Emergency Departments for excellence in exceptional practice and innovative performance in the core areas of leadership, practice, education, advocacy and research. Only 1% of Emergency Departments nationwide have received this esteemed recognition.

    One of America's 100 "Most Wired" Hospitals

    In 2014, Penn Medicine was named one of the nation's 100 "Most Wired" hospitals and health care systems by Hospitals & Health Networks, the Journal of the American Hospital Association.

    The award is based on an annual survey that polls the nation's health care systems on their use of Internet technologies to connect with patients, physicians and nurses, payors, health plans and employees.

    Beacon Award for Excellence

    The Medical Intensive Care Unit and the Surgical Intensive Care Unit at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center are two of only 15 units in Pennsylvania who have been awarded the Beacon Award for Excellence in 2013. The American Association of Critical-Care Nurses, which gives the award, judges critical-care units in several specific areas for Beacon recognition: leadership structures and systems; appropriate staffing and staff engagement; communication; knowledge management and best practices; evidence-based practices and processes; and patient outcomes.

    MBSAQIP Accredited Center

    The Bariatric Surgery Program at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania has been designated a MBSAQIP Accredited Center – Comprehensive. MBSAQIP is a joint program of the American College of Surgeons and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery.

  • HHS Transplant Center Awards

    U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' (HHS) Transplant Center Awards

    The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' (HHS) Transplant Center Awards have awarded the Penn Transplant Institute's Kidney Transplant program a Silver Level Award and the Heart Transplant program a Bronze Level Award. Transplant programs were evaluated based on post-transplant survival rates, transplant rates and mortality rates after patients are placed on waiting lists. Penn is the only transplant center in the region and one of a select group of programs in the nation to receive this distinction.

    The Joint Commission's Gold Seal of Approval™

    Penn Presbyterian Medical Center has been named a Top Performer on Key Quality Measures® by The Joint Commission, the leading accreditor of health care organizations in America. PPMC was recognized by The Joint Commission for exemplary performance in using evidence-based clinical processes that are shown to improve care for certain conditions.

  • The National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC)

    The National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC)

    The Rena Rowan Breast Center and the Abramson Cancer Center at Pennsylvania Hospital have been granted a three year/full accreditation designation by the National Accreditation for Breast Centers (NAPBC), a program administered by the American College of Surgeons. Accreditation is only given to breast centers who have voluntarily committed to provide the highest level of quality breast care and that undergo a rigorous evaluation process and review of their performance.
