A neighbor. A life.

  • 9 out of 10 people need blood at some time.
  • 1 out of every 10 hospital patients needs a blood transfusion.
  • 1 donation can save up to 3 lives.

Help our patients. Give blood.

Help our Patients. Give Blood.

The need for blood is great. On any given day, patients at Penn Medicine hospitals receive blood during surgery or while being treated for cancer or other conditions. In fact, one out of every 10 hospital patients needs a blood transfusion. For these patients, there is no substitute for human blood.

The Penn Medicine Blood Donation Center was established in 2009 to provide the Penn community and visitors with a convenient means to donate blood. Blood that is donated at Penn is used for the care of patients at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and serves to ensure a continuous, uninterrupted supply of blood.
