with Dr. Rustgi about
GI Surgery

Penn evaluates patients daily for the complete spectrum of surgical problems. The Digestive and Liver Center coordinates surgical appointments for patients after their initial evaluation in the Gastroenterology Division.

Our team of attending physicians have expertise in all surgical procedures involving the gastrointestinal tract, liver, pancreas and abdominal wall and are at the leading edge of new laparoscopic procedures, including:

  • cholecystectomy
  • fundoplication for gastroesophageal reflux
  • myotomy for achalasia
  • diagnostic examination and biopsy of the abdominal cavity
  • minimally invasive procedures for obesity, such as vertical band gastroplasty, or other benign intra-abdominal procedures (e.g. colectomy, splenectomy, adrenalectomy)
  • a wide range of other procedures
