Conditions We Treat

The Penn Pancreatic and Biliary Center includes a multidisciplinary team of gastrointestinal surgeons, gastroenterologists, radiologists, interventional radiologists, and medical and radiation oncologists available to provide highly specialized care.

Penn offers access to the latest, most advanced treatments for patients presenting with pancreatic cancer; chronic pancreatitis; bile duct strictures/injuries; and cystic neoplasms and pseudocysts of the pancreas.

Pancreatic Cancer

  • specialized endoscopic techniques, such as endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) and endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP)
  • high volume surgical experience specific to pancreatic surgery
  • adjunctive therapies and clinical trials available through the Abramson Cancer Center

Chronic Pancreatitis

  • endoscopic evaluation, including EUS
  • surgical options from traditional, such as pancreaticojejunostomy, to novel procedures, including the Frey procedure (local resection of the pancreatic head combined with lateral pancreaticojejunostomy)

Bile Duct Strictures/Injuries

  • bile duct leak correction with stents
  • laparoscopic surgery to repair stricture or injuries
  • liver resectioning

Cystic Neoplasms & Pseudocysts

  • specialized EUS and endoscope-guided fluid sampling
  • high volume major pancreatic resection with low morbidity
  • early resection for potentially malignant cysts
