April is National Cancer Control Month

The number of new cases of cancer in the United States continues to increase each year. Knowledge is power so the more informed you are about your cancer diagnosis and treatment, the better able you are to make educated decisions about your care.

Eating well and maintaining proper nutrition is one tool that can help control your cancer. A healthy diet can have a positive impact before, during and after a cancer diagnosis. For tips on eating healthy and nutritiously, or for assistance in developing your own nutrition plan, please visit the Joan Karnell Cancer Center recipe page.

Irritable Bowel Syndrome Awareness Month

Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a common disorder affecting the large intestine. It can cause abdominal cramping, bloating, constipation or diarrhea. Although IBS can cause a great deal of discomfort, it does not harm the intestines. Most people diagnosed with IBS can control their symptoms with diet, stress management and medication.

Catch Skin Cancer Early with Whole-Body Photography

Whole-Body Photography documents the skin through a series of photographs taken over time. Dermatologists recommend this tool for assistance in the early diagnosis of skin cancer - when it is the most curable. Whole-Body Photography at Penn is the only program in the Philadelphia region based at an academic medical center.
