Swallowing Therapy
The team at Penn Center for Voice and Swallowing
at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania (HUP) has special
expertise in treating swallowing disorders. Swallowing
evaluations are recommended for patients who:
- complain of difficulty or pain when swallowing
liquids, food or medication
- suffer from frequent choking during meals
- have a history of acid reflux disease
- have Parkinson's disease, cerebral palsy,
multiple sclerosis or ALS (Lou Gehrig’s
Disease)
- develop problems after sickness, surgery or
changes in medication
Our Center offers complete diagnostic and treatment
services for swallowing disorders including:
- Electromyography of swallowing muscles
- Fiberoptic endoscopicc evaluation of swallowing
(FEES)
- Flexible endoscopic evaluation of swallowing
with sensory tesating (FEEESST)
- In-office transnasal esophagiscopy (TNE)
