Speech - Language PathologyThe Speech-Language Pathology Division at Penn Medicine provides comprehensive evaluation and treatment for deficits related to speech, language, cognitive, voice, and swallowing disorders (dysphagia). Difficulties in swallowing and/or communication often occur with surgeries of the head and neck, cerebral vascular accidents (strokes), brain tumors, head injuries, and neuromuscular diseases. Many patients present with problems requiring close consultation between the speech-language pathologist and the referring physician, or multi-disciplinary care involving other appropriate medical subspecialists. The services provided by the speech-language pathology division are designed to help patients develop effective communication abilities and restore safe eating and drinking abilities. Penn Medicine Speech-Language Pathology TeamPatricia Dooley, MS, CCC-SLP, is a Clinical Specialist and the Director of the Division of Speech Language Pathology in Penn Medicine's Department of Otorhinolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery. She received her BS in Communication Sciences and Disorders from West Chester University and MS in Speech Language Pathology from James Madison University. Patricia specializes in medical speech pathology and has more than 15 years of experience in the diagnosis and rehabilitation of dysphagia, speech, and voice disorders. Her area of clinical interest is in the rehabilitation of dysphagia and voice after partial laryngectomy as well as chemoradiation therapies. Lauren Campe, MA, CCC-SLP, is a Senior Speech-Language Pathologist in Penn Medicine's Department of Otorhinolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery. She received her BS in Communication Sciences and Disorder from Marywood University and an MA in Speech-Language Pathology from the University of Pittsburgh. Lauren specializes in medical speech pathology and has more than six years of experience in head and neck cancer rehabilitation as well as in the evaluation and treatment of swallowing and voice disorders. Her clinical interests include speech and swallowing rehabilitation following head and neck cancer, with particular emphasis on partial laryngectomy as well as tracheoesophageal speech production following laryngectomy.
