State-of-the-Art in All that We Provide for our Patients

While we fully agree that in many instances non-surgical treatment is the superior treatment option, this is not always the case. In fact, as noted above, here at Penn we have carried out major chemoradiation trials, and fully support the role of non-surgical management of carcinomas of the head and neck when appropriate.

We are uniquely positioned to integrate non-surgical management into our regimens given that, in the Department of Otorhinolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery at Penn, we employ a full-time research and clinical medical oncologist focused on bench research and as well as clinical management of advanced thyroid cancer patients.

Our radiation team has a tremendous experience with IMRT radiation and will soon have the newest and largest proton beam center in the world. In addition our radiology team is world renowned for their special expertise in performing and interpreting the latest imaging techniques including PET, CT imaging, and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).

Our dental team has special expertise in the management and rehabilitation following of surgery and/or radiation of the mouth and teeth. Our speech language pathology team are among the most experienced in the country in speech and swallowing rehabilitation following the treatment of head and neck cancers.
