Rehabilitation and Treatment Services

Once diagnostic testing has been completed, and depending on the results, the multidisciplinary Balance Center team will decide the most appropriate treatment for each patient. The goal of treatment is to reduce or eliminate the symptoms of dizziness and imbalance, prevent falls and facilitate the functional and physiologic compensation process so that the patient may be able to better function in their activities of daily living.

Vestibular Rehabilitation

Vestibular Rehabilitation is provided by physical therapists who have received specialized training specifically for the treatment of dizziness and balance disorders. After reviewing the diagnostic studies and performing an evaluation, the therapist will determine the individualized treatment program for the patient. This treatment might include specific exercises designed to reduce symptoms of dizziness, balance retraining therapy and fall prevention activities. Further details regarding how the exercises and treatment plan will help, and how often the patient will need to return, will be established at the initial therapy visit. Patients may be given a home program and frequently only one or two follow-up visits are required.
