Preparing for Appointments

Office Hours

Monday through Friday
8:30 am – 5:00 pm

Our patients are seen by appointment only. In case of emergency, please call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room.

Appointments

Making Appointments:
To make an appointment at the Penn Rodebaugh Diabetes Center call 800-789-PENN (7366). You can also request an appointment online.

The Penn Rodebaugh Diabetes Center provides care exclusively for diabetes. Our patients must have a primary care provider. Please see your primary care provider for non-diabetic conditions - for example - colds, chest pain, headaches, upset stomach or muscle and joint problems.

We encourage our patients to make office appointments well in advance. Our office will remind you of your appointment prior to your visit. You can assist our staff by bringing the following information to your office visits, when applicable:

  • required referrals from primary care provider or other physicians
  • medications/prescription information
  • lab reports
  • glucose logs and monitors

Please call our registration office to update your account information prior to your visit at 1-877-204-9213 or 215-615-2240.

Canceling Appointments:
We realize that cancellations occasionally happen. If you are unable to keep an appointment, please contact our office as soon as possible. This courtesy allows us to better serve our patients.

Emergency Appointments:
Our practice occasionally needs to accommodate emergency appointments. We try to minimize the impact it has on your waiting time and thank you for your patience. If you have not been informed of any delays, please notify us.

Office Policies
Effective August 1, 2003, we have updated some of our office policies to provide better service to all of our patients. Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns about these policies:

  • Late Arrival Policy - We respect the time of all of our patients. We strive to stay on schedule so that other patients do not have to wait. If you are delayed and arrive late for your appointment, every effort will be made to see you the same day. However, you may be required to wait or your appointment may need to be rescheduled. Thank you for understanding. Our goal is to improve services to all patients.
  • New Referral Policy - All patients who arrive for their appointments without their necessary referrals will be asked to reschedule their appointment for another day in order to allow time to obtain the referrals from their primary care provider (PCP).
  • Out of respect for everyone’s time, we try to stay on schedule to avoid long waiting times. Patients who arrive on time and bring the necessary paperwork may be inconvenienced or delayed if we spend time contacting PCPs of other patients and wait for faxes or return telephone calls. We thank you for your understanding.

Prescription Medication and Refills
In order to minimize the need for telephone calls, we ask that you request refills for diabetes medications and supplies during your visit.

You may call for a refill if your prescribed diabetes medication is running out before your next appointment. Please call when you have at least one week supply left. Please contact us as early as possible during office hours so that your refill can be available within 48 hours.

Our office staff will need the following information:

  • PCP or physician’s name
  • medication’s name and dosage
  • pharmacy’s name and telephone number

Please do not ask our office for refill medications prescribed by other physicians. We will NOT refill prescriptions for patients who have not been seen at the Penn Rodebaugh Diabetes Center for more than one year.

Referrals and Consults
Our practice is exclusively for diabetes care and our patients must have a primary care provider.

If another physician refers you to the Penn Rodebaugh Diabetes Center, please provide the PCP or physician’s name, address and telephone number. In certain situations, we may need to contact your physician or refer you to a specialist for consultation. Please notify us if you would like another opinion or require information on other specialists. We are happy to suggest other specialists and will send details about your care with your permission.
