The Pigmented Lesion / Melanoma Clinic
The Pigmented Lesion / Melanoma Clinic is one
of the nation's leading programs dedicated to
the
prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of malignant
melanoma. Our multidisciplinary team includes
specialists in dermatology, medical and surgical
oncology, plastic surgery, pathology and dermatopathology,
as well as experienced nurses and a full-time
medical photographer.
Together, we offer continuity
of care to those with a diagnosis of melanoma
and to those who are at heightened risk to potentially
develop a melanoma. Members of our medical team
collaborate with physicians in the community
so that patients are closely monitored. Treatment
programs are individualized in order to meet
the specific needs of each patient.
Melanoma is a form of potentially lethal skin
cancer that is curable if caught at an early
stage. The Pigmented Lesion / Melanoma Clinic
at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania
is committed not only to identifying and treating
melanoma as soon as possible, but to preventing
it. We have led the way in understanding the
causes of melanoma, identifying the factors that
contribute to increased risk, and developing
new and more effective forms of treatment.
