The department's organizational structure consists of a director, three clinical supervisors, one lead critical care therapist and approximately 20 CRT/RRT staff. The department provides services 24 hours per day, seven days per week. Respiratory care provides the following services, according to approved departmental policies: pulmonary assessment and documentation in collaboration with nursing and physicians, providing life support systems including continuous ventilatory management, blood gas monitoring and respiratory exchange monitoring devices (non-invasive), treatment facilities for the administration of aerosol therapy for inpatients and outpatients, oxygen delivery systems, humidification delivery systems, diagnostic pulmonary function testing and patient education for many of our services.
It also provides patient care to areas such as critical care units, intensive care nursery, pulmonary rehab center, general floor care, pulmonary functions laboratory, sleep disorders center, and EEG/EMG departments. Respiratory therapists are members of the rapid response team and play an important role with patients identified and placed on the high-risk airway alert program.
