the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania
was recognized as a Center of
Excellence by the American Society for Bariatric
Surgery.
Noel
N. Williams, MD, FRCSI
Director, Penn
Bariatric Surgery Program
Dr. Williams was appointed to the Penn Faculty
in 1997. As well as being a gastrointestinal
surgeon, Dr. Williams is the director
of both the William T. Fitts Surgical Education
Center and the Center for Minimally Invasive
Therapy at Penn. His principle clinical interests
are gastrointestinal surgery including inflammatory
and neoplastic disorders of the gastrointestinal
tract, as well as minimally invasive surgery.
Kristoffel R Dumon, MD
Dr. Dumon was appointed to the faculty of the Department of Surgery at the University of Pennsylvania in 2007 as assistant professor of surgery. His clinical interests include minimally invasive surgery and multidisciplinary management of bariatric patients. His research interests include patient safety and quality improvement in bariartic surgery, as well as new technologies such as robotic surgery and endoluminal strategies.
Steven
E. Raper, MD, FACS
Dr. Raper was appointed to the faculty of the
Department of Surgery at the University of Pennsylvania
in 1993, after serving on the surgical faculty
of the University of Michigan for six years. He
is currently an associate professor of surgery.
Dr. Raper has extensive experience in performing
the open roux-en-Y gastric bypass and special
expertise in revising previously failed bariatric
procedures of all types.
Nurse Practitioner
Katie Foster-Kilgarriff, MSN, CRNP,
Program Coordinator
Katie is a nurse practitioner with 10 years
of experience in caring for surgical patients.
She received her master’s degree from
the University of Pennsylvania and worked as
a kidney and pancreas transplant nurse practitioner
at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.
Katie then worked as an occupational medicine
nurse practitioner at Penn Presbyterian Medical
Center and returned to general surgery at the
Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania as
clinical coordinator/program manager of the
Bariatric Surgery Program in February 2005.

Clinical Nutrition Support
Rachel Griehs, MS, RD
Rachel is a registered dietitian and received
her master's degree in clinical nutrition from
New York University. She is also certified in
adult weight management through the American Dietetic
Association. Rachel has been the clinical specialist
for the bariatric surgery program since January
2002. She works with all of the bariatric patients
and coordinates their medical course with the
surgeons.
Cara Stewart, RD, LDN
Outpatient Clinical Nurse
Samantha Warner Grimsley,
RN
Samantha is a registered nurse with 13 years of
nursing experience at the Hospital of the University
of Pennsylvania. She has worked with bariatric
patients during their postoperative recovery for
many years. Samantha recently joined the bariatric
program and assists with outpatient management
and patient education.
