Anesthesiology and Critical Care at the Hospital
of the University of Pennsylvania
With its highly specialized physicians and advanced
technical capabilities, the Department provides
anesthesia and perioperative care for patients
undergoing surgery or major diagnostic procedures
at the Hospital of the University
of Pennsylvania.
Department physicians are also essential elements
in Penn's Level One Trauma Center, where its
specialists perform resuscitation and airway
management, and provide a critical care assessment
and long-term management.
The Department provides
expert obstetrical
anesthesia, as well as anesthesia
support for a variety of inpatient and outpatient
diagnostic procedures.
Anesthesia Pain Service
The Anesthesia Pain Service at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania
has a full-time team of physicians who are always available to provide consultation
and effective treatment of acute postoperative pain for all surgical patients.
Symptom Management and Palliative Care Program
(SYMPAC)
The Department of Anesthesia and Critical Care, in conjunction with the Penn
School of Nursing, provides consultations and multidisciplinary evaluation
and treatment of severe pain and other complex end-of-life symptoms for patients
in the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, the Abramson
Cancer Center of the University of Pennsylvania, or a hospice
setting.
