Anesthesiology and Critical Care at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania

With its highly specialized physicians and advanced technical capabilities, the Department provides anesthesia and perioperative care for patients undergoing surgery or major diagnostic procedures at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.

Department physicians are also essential elements in Penn's Level One Trauma Center, where its specialists perform resuscitation and airway management, and provide a critical care assessment and long-term management.

The Department provides expert obstetrical anesthesia, as well as anesthesia support for a variety of inpatient and outpatient diagnostic procedures.

Anesthesia Pain Service
The Anesthesia Pain Service at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania has a full-time team of physicians who are always available to provide consultation and effective treatment of acute postoperative pain for all surgical patients.

Symptom Management and Palliative Care Program (SYMPAC)
The Department of Anesthesia and Critical Care, in conjunction with the Penn School of Nursing, provides consultations and multidisciplinary evaluation and treatment of severe pain and other complex end-of-life symptoms for patients in the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, the Abramson Cancer Center of the University of Pennsylvania, or a hospice setting.
